Land
New Zealand is experiencing intensification to accommodate its projected population growth. Riley understands the land use changes that can help achieve smart and sustainable development.
There is an increasing focus on infill development and redeveloping existing sites to achieve better use of available land.
While the high-density development seen overseas can be viewed as undesirable, greater intensification does have the benefit of reducing the amount of greenfield land needed for new development.
Key to achieving the right balance is applying smart and sustainable design principles that minimise impacts on people, land and water. Understanding the composition, strength and engineering characteristics of the soil and rock beneath developments, and nature, source and value of our water resources, are crucial considerations that feed into this.
Since we began, Riley has developed strong technical skills in:
-
engineering geology
-
geotechnical and civil engineering
-
land contamination
-
water resource management.
We’ve lent those skills to a range of land development projects throughout New Zealand and in the Pacific Islands. The projects have included residential, commercial, industrial and multi-storey developments on greenfield and redeveloped sites.
Incorporating and balancing those parameters in our design development is a significant challenge our civil engineering team undertakes on a daily basis.
