THE BRIEF
The Toki Poutangata Bridge connects the Westport town centre to the river and provides linkage to the Kawatiri Coastal Trail. This will enable the community and visitors to enjoy active transport and recreation opportunities.
RIley investigated the ground conditions at the bridge site, then provided geotechnical design and construction sign-off for the foundations supporting the bridge.
THE OUTCOME
The design solution included a 5m+ mechanically stabilised embankment and ramp footings that provide design resilience against liquefaction, settlement, and train derailment loads.
